Infectious Disease (ID) Subspecialty/Fellowship Training

Most infectious disease specialists are formally trained in internal medicine or pediatrics, but some have entered the field after training in osteopathic medicine or other specialties (e.g., oncologists

who became HIV specialists, etc.). In addition to medical school and residency training, ID specialists complete two to three years of additional fellowship training in Infectious Diseases.
