The fellowship programs in social medicine at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital were developed to train physicians for the community setting. Our objective is to provide a comprehensive and longitudinal experience that will afford fellows exposure to various treatment settings required for continuity of care. The program emphasizes inpatient and outpatient medicine and the importance of the physician's role, as a patient advocate, educator, and as an agent of change.
