About This Program
Founded in 1936 with continuous ACGME accreditation, Howard University General Surgery Residency is the oldest and largest general surgery residency at a historically Black college and university. Based at the nation's only teaching hospital on an HBCU campus in Washington, DC, our residents train in a high-volume urban academic center and Level I trauma system with broad exposure to complex general surgery and surgical subspecialties. Graduates on average complete more than 1,100 operative case
