The Department of the Medical Examiner serves all of Los Angeles County, including 88 cities and unincorporated areas across 4,084 square miles with 10.2 million residents. About 23,000 deaths are reported each year, and jurisdiction is taken in roughly 13,300 cases. The county's diverse geography and daily, weekly, and specialized trainings provide ongoing professional learning. These opportunities support growth for investigators, pathologists, technicians, and trainees throughout the dept.
