As a Level 1 trauma center, complex patient cases, self-referrals, and diverse patient population are seen at UNM Hospital. Facilities for teaching and education are a strength of the program. All subspecialties are covered well. Our pairing of residents to faculty is typically 1:1 with significant autonomy in the operating room and trauma heavy in general. Our residents are exposed to a Level 3 trauma center as well which is in Rio Rancho, NM and about 30 minutes from the main hospital.
