The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) 's ophthalmology department has provided a progressive training program for residents since 1956. Our program offers excellent surgical experience and complex medical volume to prepare residents for future careers. As Mississippi's only level-one trauma center, UMMC is the primary referral source for complex pathology in surrounding areas. At UMMC, we have developed a stepwise-cataract surgical development program that begins in the PGY-1 year.
