Overview

Vanderbilt is the only major academic tertiary center in our region which has a catchment area of nearly 5 million people. Our mission is to train future leaders in academic medicine who will improve the human condition through the practice of medicine, education, research, and service. Our residents manage patients with complex medical conditions in an environment that emphasizes resident autonomy, resident wellness, bedside teaching, science, and a physiology-based approach to medicine.
