Fellows entering at the NCC-1 level must have completed a residency program in anesthesiology, child neurology, emergency medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, or neurology.

Fellows entering at the NCC-2 level must have completed a fellowship in anesthesiology critical care medicine, internal medicine critical care medicine, or pediatric critical care medicine, or a surgical critical care residency, or have completed or be matriculated in a neurological surgery residency program.
